I have seen this bands logo many times for the past say ten years but i never listen to them...

I dont know why really but i guess there is always a bit too many bands to sink your teeth into

i guess you know how what i mean....Well today that was about to change!

Storm of Darkness is a Black metal horde from Colombia (with members from Asbel, Espectrum,Cyborg Halucinations and more) and they have been at it since 2008.

They have been quite active also with 4 demos, 2 EPs, 4 splits and 3 albums before this one i

review now.

Before i dived into this i seeked out the previous albums and listen to them as i for one was curious and two for comparison, to keep it short i liked them all but i noticed a shift from the first album which was more morbid and mid-to-fast old school Death/Thrash/Black while from the second album there is more focus on blastbeats and infernal blistering riffs and bigger production,

then also notice on the third album had some more wandering melodies and more rythmic pulse was introduced into the songs....There is a clear progression and audial change over time for the band and i can imagine there is some that enjoy the first album more and some that likes the later work more, two sides and eras of the band and tastebuds.

Let us focus now on the fresh new album "Inevitable" from this year!

First thing that strikes me is that they have pushed up the technical direction in riffings and the overall compositions, also the production is even more "pro" and all the instruments are very dynamic and clear but not lifeless though!

The wandering and somewhat moody melodies (and some long noodly guitar solos) come back here but in a bit more intricate fashion, the members really is pumping its muscles here to show their skill heheh. Besides the fast and technical furious black metal songs they also includes some nice calmer bits here and there (but it could have some more slower and sombre parts for my taste, i think the fast riffings would hit harder then.) to make the experience more impactful and it works nicely.

Also the good cover art fits this albums sound and lyrics i think in both its clear grey tones but also in the dark (though natural) theme of death....It is like the reaper is not hiding in the shadows here but comes forth into the daylight, i guess more like a metaphore.

I feel the themes here (i cant speak much Spanish or similar languages so keep that in mind) is portraying a lifes journey and with the unavoidable(or inevitable) death of a person.....then it seems to travel further behind the veil of the mortal realm and into a spiritual contemplation...

Something like that at least is my interpretation.

This perhaps sounds like the music would be pretty melancholic and dark but it is really not that but rather it is more aggressive and continuously pushing forward (more like the sound of war attack!) so one could say the music and lyrics is living inside a paradox world of 30 minutes burnt on a CD.Perhaps the music was made separately and lyrics was made afterward?

I dont know.

One other thing i like is the three instrumental tracks that works in a way like chapters do in books...in other words the usual way instrumentals/interludes and similar stuff is used as....But that said these ones also sounds like regular songs without vocals, either way it works.

All in all a well made modern Black metal release that both goes hard and is pretty intricate.
