In the dark Bavarian soil in Germany where the old ice cold blood runs deep there you will
find a solid breeding ground for good Black metal and this band Mortem Agmen in no exception.
Obscure winds from the past is always blowing here and the nihilistic outlook on-it-all is persistent
like a steel clad hand of doom weighting shoulders down....That is a feeling a get while listening
on this debut album called "The Path to the Abyss of Evil".
Besides this the band also have some kind of "light" inside their compositions...perhaps it is just me but i feel there is some conflict of emotions in the songs....Like there is that all penetrating negative force but also there is a another strong force that tries to stand up to it all, like an ancient warriors soul that will fight even if death is steering it straight into his face.

To describe this in more common terms this is mid-paced (and a bit faster) Black metal that
has both classic German and Finnish inspirations regarding the compositions and aura, not pagan
but rather a pretty clear-cut sardonic Black metal style with some doses of melancholic and
hatefull ingridients. It is very traditional but has a honest atmosphere to it and it is also taight
played and the production/mixing is solid, not raw in sound but more so in delivery.

It is just well made from start to finish really and the only negative points i could mention is quite
minor ones like some songs could be shortened for its own good and some overall narrative is not soo tangible, feels more like a bunch of songs rather then a planned full album concept....
While this can be something very negative for some albums here it is not really a problem.
The album was written and recorded in only 6 intensive months so that can be a reason it feel like this, either way this first album has enough of solid tunes (track 3 & 4 is my pics) to
make me sit up and take notice.
It is a pretty new band with just a demo before this so i see no reason why they would not only grow from here....Having said that i think it is worth though to mention that the members here is no newbies to the craft as they have both a current & past in bands like Amystery, ex-Lunar Aurora, Annos Cinere & Profane Existence etc.

This album will be released on tape and CD now the 23 of February by Nachzehrer Records!
